The assessment of the pore structure and the adsorption properties of activated carbon fibers (ACF) are so far based on the standards for active carbons. However, the structure of ACF is, after all, different from that of active carbon. therefore, more detail works are meeded in order to evaluate reasonably the structure and properties of ACFs. In this paper the adsorption characteristics of Iodine, phenol and dyes methylene blue, cystal violet and xylenol orange on a varity of activated carbon fibers (SACFs) with different pore structure have been studied. The results indicated that the adsorption amount of Iodine, phenol, and dyes are proportional to the surface areas of ACFs, the adsorption of these dyes on ACFs are also determined by pore width of ACFs, that is, it is affected by pore screening. The adsorption amount of dyes on per square meter surface of ACF increases with the pore width of ACF.In the dye adsorption curve on a variety of ACFs there is a steep adsorption of dye, then the curve bend to a gradual adsorption plateau with of ACFs. The bending point may correspond to the width that allows the dye molecules to go through. It is evident that the bending point varies with dyes. Therefore, it is propossed that the correlativity of dye adsorption with the pore width of ACFs and the geometric dimension of dyes would be applied to the assessment of the structure of ACF or the liquid phase adsorption properties of ACFs.
