摘　　要：扁形人物,指性格单一的人物,是英国小说美学家E.M.Forster在《小说面面观》中提出的,圣经中该隐与亚伯即属于扁形人物,福斯特认为,扁形人物就是可以用一句话来总结,只有少数一两种固定性格特征的人物,而与之对应的术语是"圆形人物"。在一个复杂的小说中,扁形人物是不能独立存在的,必须与圆形人物相结合。只有在二元对立的关照下,扁形人物才有存在的价值。该隐与亚伯就是二元对立关照下扁形人物塑造的典范,这种二元对立的结构模式有助于揭示人物尤其是扁形人物的性格特征,展露并解决故事中的矛盾。Flat character refers to simplex character,which is brought up by E.M.Forster in his Aspects of the Novel,just as the typical biblical characters Cain and Abel.Forster believes that flat characters can be summarized in one sentence,and has only a few fixed characters,while the opposite term is round character.In a complex novel,flat characters do not exist independently and must be combined with round characters.Only under the guidance of binary opposition principle,flat characters have the value to exist.Cain and Abel are the examples of flat characters under binary opposition principle.This mode is helpful to reveal the qualities of flat characters,and display and solve the contradiction in the story.
