摘　　要：This article discusses the construction category of gender in relation to bereavement rituals among the Tshivenda-speaking community. The article presents the socially constructed rules for men and women and the way religion and culture inform the way people view the bereavement rituals. In the discussion, the article elaborates on how gender inequality affects women more than men. Recommendations are also provided to protect women from suffering the consequences of gender inequality within the Tshivenda-speaking community.
