Objective To study the feasibility and effectiveness of a novel inflatable pad for carrying fracture patients in the operation room. Methods From June 2009 to July 2010,200 patients who suffered from fracture in the lower extremity were equally divided into two groups randomly. The patients in the experimental group were carried with a novel inflatable pad, while the control group received conventional manual carrying. The pain score,as well as the blood pressure, pulse and respiratory rate before and after carrying in the two groups were compared. Results The carrying pain scores of the experimental and control groups were 4.7±0.9 and 8.6±0.9 respectively. There were significant differences between the two groups(t=-9.978,P0.01).However,no significant difference was observed on the blood pressure, pulse and respiratory rate before and after carrying(P0.05).The blood pressure, pulse and respiratory rate were significantly elevated after full mixture in the experimental group(P0.01).Conclusion The inflatable carrying pad is a simple and reliable carrying tool.It can effectively reduce the pain degree caused by carrying and thus ensure the stable vital signs of patients with fracture.
