Objective To detect the changes of endothelium-dependent vascular relaxing function in essential hypertension patients with hyperuricemia. Methods With high-resolution ultrasound, the diameter of brachial arteries at rest, during reactive hyperaemia and after sublingual GTN were measured in 120 subjiects, consisted of 60 cases of essential hypertension patients with hyperurieemia, 30 cases of essential hypertension and 30 cases normal control group. Results The results showed that the flow-mediatde dilatation(FMD) of brachial artery in the group of essential hypertension and essential hypertension patients with hyperuricemia significantly reduced compared with the normal control group( P 〈 0.05 ), especially in the essential hypertension patients with hyperuricemia( P 〈 0.01 ). There was no significant difference in response to GTN between the essential hypertension and the control group( P 〉 0.05), but there were significant differences in response to GTN beteeen the essential hypertension patients with hyperuricemia and the control groups (P 〈 0. 05). Conclusions Hypentricemia might impair endothelium-dependent vasodilation.
