摘 要:Today, modern performance facilities are just as varied as the styles of performance that take place inside them. However, this is not exactly true with the Nigerian theatre where lighting equipment as simple as lanterns is a rarity. In the Nigerian theatre, as in other parts of the less developed world, light is used as a means of concealing unused spaces for sets on stage, of actualizing such set design concepts as envisioned in minimalist movements, and of transfixing the audience on the action, sometimes without regards to the locale. The urge by playwrights to introduce lighting directions as part of their intext references sometimes informs the choice of design concepts by set and lighting designers. More than any play in his generation, Clark's Song of a Goat reveals an enchanting authorial reference that provokes a style of staging, which relies more on light than on physical sets.
