Objective: To study the related factors of the frequency of acute exacerbation in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients. Methods: The frequency of acute exacerbation in 202 COPD patients was investigated in last 3 years retrospectively, and the level of serum calcium, phosphorus, blood gas analysis, pulmonary function test were determinated. The relations of serum calcium with the frequency of acute exacerbation, values of blood gas analysis, pulmonary function were analyzed. Results: The percent of patients with low serum calcium was 57.92% in 202 patients, the frequency of acute exacerbation in low serum calcium group was higher than that in normal serum calcium group (P〈0.05). In 117 low serum calcium group patients, the level of serum calcium was negatively correlated with age,pH (r =-0.196, r =-0.908; P〈0.05 completely);and positively correlated with the level of phosphorus,BMI, PaCO2, FEVI%( r =0.309, r =0.466, r =0.909, r=0.301; P〈0.05 completely). Conclusion: The frequency of acute exacerbation is high in low serum calcium group. The level of serum calcium can be used to evaluate the severity of COPD.
