摘　　要：在基督教文化中,耶稣以其在十字架上的殉难实现对人类的拯救。因此,十字架成为救赎的象征、盼望的象征、转变的象征。约瑟夫.康拉德小说《文明前哨》中出现的十字架不仅推动小说情节发展,也使得小说人物与十字架存在某种隐喻关联,更具有人的文化生存与自我救赎意义。Ever since Jesus was martyred on the cross to realize his salvation of the mankind in Christian culture, the cross has become a symbol of redemption, of longing and of transformation. As an image in the novel An Outpost of Progress by Joseph Conrad, the cross not only advances the plot of the story, but generates some metaphorical association with the figures in the story, which adds to the cross the meanings of man＇ s cultural existence and self- redemption.
