Identifying Student's Misconceptions About Indicators: A Study of Turkish University Students

摘  要:Nowadays, the studies in education have focused on searching how students understand concepts. In the study, it has been focused on the indicators, and the misconceptions related to the indicators have been discussed. The study was conducted with 158 university students who participated in general and analytic chemistry courses. Students were posed six questions related to indicators to determine their misconceptions about the topic. In the study, it was determined that students had misconceptions about indicators. They perceived indicators only as acid-base indicators and thought titration event only as acid-base titration. They did not express the role of indicators in titration event. The determination of student's misconceptions about indicators is so important since this provides which points should be focused on while students are taught titration and indicators in chemistry courses.
