摘　　要：Work, as a concept holding value, has redemptive value, as held by Western Christian belief systems. The meaning, however, has changed throughout various epochs of history. This paper aims to explore the meaning of work through the early Monastic period, the period of the Reformation and the era of John Calvin＇s influence. The meaning ascribed to work has changed and this paper calls for reforms in the way work is treated as an element of human life.
