ESTIMATIONS OF THE SHAPE AND VOLUME OF A STONY DEBRIS FLOW FAN

摘  要:This paper presents the experimental results of the deposition outline shapes of sediment water flows on an inclined plane. The experiments simulate the deposition shapes of stony debris flow fans in a flooding plain and the results show that the deposition profiles of the sediment water mixture in the inclined plane could be approximately described by Gaussian curves both in the longitudinal and the transverse directions of the flow path. The shape of the fringe of deposition is similar to a half ellipse. The length, width and depth of the sediment deposition in a “quasi stable stage have their own maximum values, L c, B m and Z o , respectively, for each case. The total volume V of sediment deposition could be simply related to these maximum values by V=αL cB mZ o with a shape parameter α to be empirically determined.
