THE SEASON ACTIVITY AND AGGREGATING BEHAVIOR OF THE SILVER PHEASANT IN DINGHUSHAN BIOSPHERE RESERVE

摘  要:以诱饵定位观察的方法研究保护区白鹇活动规律。揭示了白鹇季节活动节律不但受光照因子 的作用,而且还受时间因子即生物体内生物钟的控制。进一步证实白鹇群体在每年繁殖季节进入雌 鸟孵卵期(4~5月)时才完全解体,6~8月起又重新集结的规律。We made use of the approach of 'Observing at fixed spots with baits' in the study of ecology of the Silver pheasant. In the region where the Silver pheasants often haunt, we set baits for long period so that flocks of the Silver pheasants were attracted to the baits. After a period of adaptation, the flocks became used to eating at certain spots. Therefor, most of their activities could be closely well watched. The Silver pheasants regularly act in their home range with fixed orientation, routes and area. We recorded the earliest morning time with intensity of illumination at which the Silver pheasant came to a spot to eat and the latest afternoon time with intensity of illumination at which the Silver pheasants left after eating. Pheasant flocks started to be active at down earlier during April-September and the illumination in forests was stronger, See Fig. 1. During October-March the time they began to work became later, while illumination was weaker. In winter, sunshine time was short, morning action time of pheasants must be postponed until good sunshine to come; however, even though the intensity of illumination was lower than in summer, the flocks of pheasants did begin to look for food. At dusk, during April-September, pheasants left the spot later with stronger illumination, See Fig. 2. During October-March sunshine time was short, they left earlier with weaker illumination. It showed that in winter, pheasants ended their days early , but it was not so early as to get the same illumination as in summer time. Even the illumination was not strong enough, pheasans were still staying and looking for food. This indicates that the day and night regularity of the Silver pheasants is determined not only by illumination factor but also by time factor. Illumination factor delayed the beginning time of the Silver pheasants' seeking food in winter mornings and shifted the ending time of the Silver pheasants' day earlier.
