(Ⅱ) ONYCHOGOMPHINAE: (4) Nihonogomphus is divided into 2 subgcnera.Nihonogomphus, s. s. is characterized by lacking the posterior lobe of the penis. Included in this subgenus are bequaerti Chao, chad Zhou et Wu, lieftincki Chao, montanus Zhou et Wu, semanticus Chao, silvanus Zhou et Wu, simillimus Chao, thomassoni ( Kirby) and viridis Oguma (type species of the subgenus). Lobogomphus Chao, subgcn. nov., is characterized by the presence of the posterior lobe of the penis. Included in the subgenus arc brevipennis (Needham) (type species of the subgenus), cultratus Chao et Wang, pulcherrimus Fraser, ruptus ( Selys) and shaowuensis Chao = N. zhejianxensis Chao et Zhou, syn. nov. The subgeneric distinction is based on males only. The subgeneric placement of the female and larva is not clear at present. Both gilvus Chao and hiteolatus Chao et Liu arc known from females. Their subgcneric placement is uncertain. The subgeneric placement of N. indicus Lahiri is uncertain due to lack of necessary literature for reference. ( 5)
