The presence of foam reduces capacity and processing rates, dramatically increasing a plant's overall operating costs. The industrial wastewater industry has typically used two methods to control foam: mechanical knockdown systems and foam control agents, or antifoams. Antifoams for wastewater treatment generally fall into one of two categories: Organic and silicone. Silicone antifoams are considered by users and researchers to be more effective foam control agents. Their highly—efficient, long—lasting action, inert properties and defined toxicological status make silicones a perfect match for waste treatment operations.
