摘　　要：语言是文化的载体,文化是语言的内容,语言和文化互为表里。东西方不同的社会文化背景,必然会产生不同的委婉语;而不同的社会语境,也决定了人们选用不同的委婉语。对英汉委婉语的文化内涵进行比较分析,有助于我们减少跨文化交际中的障碍与失误,促进中西方文化交流。Language is the carrier of culture, while culture is the content of language. They are complementary to each other. Different socio - cultural backgrounds will produce different euphemisms and the differences of social contexts make people choose different euphemisms. The eontrastive study on cultural connotations of Chinese and English euphemisms will help to reduce the barriers and mistakes in cross- cultural communication and improve the communication between Western and Eastern cultures.
