Objective To study the impact of height, weight, body mass index (BMI) on bone mineral density (BMD) among children aged 5414 years and the correlation among them. Methods From April 2010 to June 2011 altogether 1 219 healthy children aged from 5 to 14 years old, visiting the child health outpatient of Shenyang Children' s Hospital for routine physical examination, were selected as the subjects of the study. Weight and height of them were measured and BMI was calculated. The BMD of the whole body was scaled with dual energy X-ray absorptiometry( DPX-NT), and the captured data was analyzed. Results In each age group BMD increased with age, and it had positive correlation with age ( r = 0. 694, P 〈 0.01 ), height ( r = 0. 757, P 〈 0.01 ), weight ( r = 0. 775, P 〈 0.01 ) and BMI ( r = 0.593, P 〈0.01 ). There was difference in BMD between different sex in some of age groups (5-8 years) and it had statistical significance ( both P 〈 0.05 ). Conclusion Children' s BMD is a continuous cumulative process, and is affected by height, weight, BMI and other factors. Therefore, influencing factors such as physical development should be considered in the process of evaluating BMD.
