The aim of the work was to investigate the bromate minimization during the supported cerium oxide- catalyzed ozonation (O3/CEO2) of bromide-containing filtered surface water in continuous flow mode (CFM). Results indicated that the advantage of O3/CEO2 oxidation on minimizing bromate was still significant when NOM is present in CFM. Ozone dosage, bromide concentration and contact time were further studied for their effect on minimizing bromate during O3/CEO2 oxidation in CFM. Results showed that O3/CEO2 oxidation could significantly reduce bromate formation at all conditions applied in this experiment. Under high ozone dosage (5 mg/L), O3/CEO2 oxidation caused a significant reduction of 73.8% for bromate concentration, compared with ozonation alone. Higher bromide concentration of the filtered water did not weaken the efficiency of O3/CEO2 on minimizing bromate with the bromide concentration ranging from 0 to 3 mg/L in this work. The OJCeO2 oxidation would achieve higher efficiency on bromate minimization as the contact time extended to 9.8 min, and it was proposed that the contact time should be about 10 min in practice.
