摘　　要：该文通过对前工业时代的西方古典建筑发展进程中材料应用与表现进行历史回顾,来探寻材料表现与建筑风格间的潜在关联。行文中,首先在总体上阐述西方历史建筑在材料选择上的砖石传统,及其物质与观念上的成因;随后按时间顺序,对具体的历史时期与对应的建筑风格中材料表现的内容加以探讨,揭示出材料的"结构属性"表现是隐藏在显性的风格演进中的的一条延续线索;最后,在上述研究的基础上,得出结论:西方古典建筑中砖石材料的结构理性表现,是建筑风格变迁的重要驱动力。Based on reviewing the materials application and expression of western classic architecture in pre-industrial era, this paper tries to find out the underlying relation between materials expression and architecture styles. Firstly, it generally describes the choice of materials and the causes in the history of western classic architecture; and then it explores the content of materials expression in specific historic periods and the corresponding architectural styles,which proclaims the expression of ＂structure rationality＂ is the clue for dominant style evolution. Finally, on the basis of the above study, it gets the conclusion： the materials expression of ＂structure rationality＂ in western classical architecture, is a important driving force of the evolvement of the architectural stvles.
