摘　　要：介绍ESI数据库及其指标体系的特点,分析ESI数据库的应用情况,对科学研究评价工具的功能设计思路进行思考,提出设立权重平衡学科差异、建立人名机构规范档、提高可检索性及可视化程度等建议。The paper introduces the characteristics of Essential Science Indicators （ESI） as well as its index system, analyzes the application status of ESI, thinks about the ideas for function design of scientific research evaluation tools, puts forward some suggestions, including： setting weights to balance the differences among different disciplines, constructing specification files for names and institutes, improving findability and visualization extent, etc.
