Objective To observe the therapeutic effect of acupuncture predominantly at Fengchi (GB20) plus Siguan(LI4,LR3) points in treating cervical vertigo. Method A hundred and seven patients were randomized into an acupuncture group of 55 cases and a medication group of 52 cases. The acupuncture group received acupuncture majorly at Fengchi and Siguan points, and the medication group was prescribed with orally taken Flunarizine Hydrochloride capsules, successive 15-day treatments as a course. The therapeutic effects in the two groups were observed, and the blood flow of vertebral artery was detected by transcranial Doppler before and after treatment, and then a 3-month follow-up study was conducted. Result The total effective rate was 89.1% in the acupuncture group, versus 65.4% in the medication group, and the difference was statistically significant (P〈0.01); the improvement of the blood flow of vertebral artery in the acupuncture group was obviously better than that in the medication group (P〈 0.01); the relapse rate in the acupuncture group was significantly lower than that in the medication group (P〈0.05). Conclusion Compared with orally taken Flunarizine Hydrochloride capsules, acupuncture predominantly at Fengchi plus Siguan points has better therapeutic effect and lower relapse rate in treating cervical vertigo.
