Objective To understand the incidence circumstances and prevalent characteristics of metabolic syndrome(MS) among workers at the Tahe oilfield in Xinjiang and to provide a basis for health education on hypertension, hyperglycemia, hyperlipidemia and high risk group and doing a good job in primary prevention for cardiocerebrovascular diseases. Methods The cluster random sampling method was adopted. The group worked for over 1 year in 4 bases of Tahe oilfield from March to April 2010 were performed the physical examinations and measurement of relevant MS indicators.International Diabetes Federation(IDF) 2005 MS diagnostic standards were principally used. Results The detection rate of MS in the examined group was 17.99%,and the MS incidence was gradually increased with increase of age. There were obvious variations in all of the various MS indicators in the MS group. The blood pressure, triglycerides(TG),fasting blood-glucose(FBG) and levels of uric acid among those with MS were all higher than those without MS.Conclusion In the examined group, the detection rate of MS is increased with age increase.MS sufferers are most common in central obesity. This group should be seen as the focal group in MS,and education on them should be strengthened and corresponding preventive measures should be adopted to reduce the incidence of MS among oil field workers.
