Objective Autoimmune diseases, more commonly seen in females than in males, are shown to be associated with CD1s by many researches. Our study aimed to explore the differential expressions of CD1s between different genders in patients with type 1 diabetes. Methods We detected the expression of CD1 molecules in the peripheral monocytes and lymphocytes by flow cytometry in 24 type 1 diabetes patients, including 14 boys and 10 girls aged 15-23 years, with the disease course 6 months. Results The surface expressions of CD1a,CD1c and CD1d in the lymphocytes were significantly higher in the female than in the male patients(P0.05),but showed no significant difference in monocytes between the two groups(P0.05).Conclusion The surface expressions of CD1s in the lymphocytes of type 1 diabetes patients are different between males and females, which gives rise to a hypothesis that different CD1s expressions may be associated with different lipidantigen and estrogen levels. This has offered a new insight into the prevention and individualized treatment of type 1 diabetes.
