摘　　要：丽莉·巴特是小说《快乐之家》中的中心人物， 对她发展轨迹的分析有助于我们了解作家华顿揭露１９ 世纪末美国上流社会道德沦丧、责任感丧失这一主题。通过分析丽莉与两个男性人物（ 格斯·雷诺、劳伦斯·塞尔登） 的关系， 我们不仅可以看到上流社会成员金钱至上、缺乏道德感的伪善面目， 而且还可以认识到那个社会为做到表面上的礼貌而压抑个人情感所产生的后果。丽莉的意识发展使她对人与人之间的关系有了清醒的认识， 她是这个不讲道德、不讲责任、没有真情的“快乐之家”中孤独的灵魂。An examination of the female protagonist of The House of Mirth , Lily Bart, contributes to our understanding of“the frivolous society”that Edith Wharton aimed to portray. The study of the relationship between Lily and Gus Trenor reveals the lack of responsibility and morality among members of high society. A survey of the relationship between Lily and Selden points to the restrained culture as well as Seldens contradictory moral values. Emerging as a solitary soul, Lily Bart is finally awakened to various sordid aspects of the high society.
