Objective To compare the changes of infrared radiant track along meridian courses (IRRTM) and functional activities of primary somatosensory area (SI) of cerebral cortex during electroacupunc- ture at Guangming (GB37) and explore the immanent relation between 1RRTM and cortical somatosensory e- voked potential (CSEP). Methods 48 healthy adult volunteers were selected as observation objects, and the changes of IRRTM and CSEP were observed by infrared thermal imaging technique and topographical tech- nique of brain evoked potential. Results Electroacupuncture had little effect on the temperature of meridi- an, but had clear effect on IRRTM. E|ectroacupuneture induced infrared radiant track to be more continuous and regular. For volunteers with remarkable sensation transmission along gall bladder meridian to head and face, high potential reactions in the lower limbs and face occurreded in the CSEP skipping the upper limbs. Conclusion IRRTM and CSEP occurred when GB37 is stimulated by electroacupuncture, and the results confirm again that peripheral tissue evoking is the decisive factor for transmission along the meridia.
