Objective:To study the effect of psychological intervention in post-op sagittal split ramus osteotomy muscular rehabilitation training.Methods:60 post-op sagittal split ramus osteotomy patients were randomly assigned to two study groups:experimental and controlling group. Both groups received standard systemic care with muscular rehabilitation training.Psychological interventions were given to patient in the experimental group. Then degree of mouth opening, biting force and self-rated anxiety scale were measured pre-op and at 2,4 and 8 weeks of post-op interval. Results:The degree of mouth opening and biting force of the experimental group had reached the level prior to surgery at 4week and 8week post-op respectively. The control group could not achieve the same degree of mouth opening at week 4and biting force at week 8.Self-Rating Anxiety Scale score for controlling group was comparably lower than the experimental group at 2,4,8weeks of post-op.Conclusion:The psychological intervention could improve the functional recovery of SSRO patients who went through muscular rehabilitation training.Psychological intervention could help reducing the anxiety of post-op patient and enhance the cooperation between care provider and patient.
