Objective To assess the efficacy of atorvastatin for regulating LDL-C and apoB in type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methods Electronic search of Pubmed,The Coehrane Library, Elsevier, VIP,and manual search of the China Biological Medicine Database and The Wangfang Data to 2010 were done. Randomized controlled trials of atorvastatin therapy for type 2 diabetes mellitus were included. Meta-analyses were performed for the results of homogeneous studies using the Cochrane Collaboration RevMan 5. 0. 1 software. Results Four trials with a total of 3171 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus were included. The meta-analyses showed that atorvastatin could lower the LDL-C [WMD= -1.00,95%CI ( -1.37,-0.64),P〈0.01]and apoB[WMD= -0.34,95%CI ( -0.50, -0.17), P 〈 0.01 ] in plasma in type 2 diabetes mellitus. Conclusion This meta-analysis results suggest that low-dose atorvastatin in long-term have positive effects on the adjustment of LDL-C and apoB, as well as improving blood lipid in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
