Objective This study tried to know the differences in brain activation of children with and without grasp-related movement training while they were performing the semantic fluency task. Methods Twenty four children were divided into two groups in accordance to with or without grasp-related movement training. Semantic test was used as the verbal task. The brain activation of children was motored through functional magnetic resonance imaging while they were performing the semantic fluency task. Results Comparison of demographic and behavioral data showed no significant difference between the two groups in performance of the verbal fluency task. However, there was significant difference between two groups in statistical parametric mapping activation pattern. Significant activations were observed in left insula, bilateral inferior frontal gyrus, and the left frontal lobe (precentral gyrus)of brain. Conclusion Grasp-related movement training obviously influences the Chinese children language processing. The region for grasp-related movement that promotes speech processing locates mainly in the frontal central gyrus.
