In order to improve depth profile effect of polymer microspheres,nano/micron-sized polymerparticles were prepared by distillation precipitation polymerization method. Then, particle size, hydration swelling and plugging properties of nano/micron-sized polymer particles were determined and analyzed by the laser particle size analyzer, microporous membrane filter devices and flooding devices. The results show that nano/micron-sized polymer particles are regular and uniform spheres and have good hydration expansion performance. The expansion property of nano/micron-sized polymer particles decreased when the salt concentration increased. As the temperature increased, the expansion property of nano/micron-sized polymer particles increased. The expansion property of nano/micron-sized polymer particles was degraded in calcium chloride and magnesium chloride solution as well as acid and alkaline environment. With the growth of the hydration time, the plugging and deformation properties of nano/micron-sized polymer particles were strengthened gradually. The nano/micron-sized polymer particles could plug the pore channel, and at the same time pass through the pore channel by deformation. The nano/micron-sized polymer particles have better depth profile effect in lower permeability cores.
