Objective To study the relationship of androgen receptor(AR) gene(CAG) n polymorphism distribution frequency and type 2 diabetes angiopathy. Methods The length of androgen receptor gene CAG short tandem repeat(CAG-STR) sequences were detected by DNA sequencing in 48 cases of male type 2 diabetic patients with vascular complications, and compared with 60 without vascular complications and 46 normal controls respectively. Results The number of CAG repeats ranged from 13-36, with mean value 22.2. It was 23.4 ±3.85 in DM with vascular disease group, 22.3 ± 3.57 in DM without vascular disease group and 21.9 ± 3.45 in normal controls. Statistical analysis revealed that diabetic vascular lesion group CAG-STR length was significantly higher than that in no vascular lesion group and control group(P〈0.05). The CAG number of repetitions were positively correlated with HDL-C levels. Conclusion male type 2 diabetic vascular complications associated with androgen receptor gene(CAG) polymorphism. The length of androgen receptor gene CAG repeat sequences is likely one of the risk factors of diabetic vascular disease, the longer CAG repeat sequences, the more likely vascular lesions occur.
