Objective To explore a set of in-bed physical exercises for inpatients with spinal trauma, and to boost their rehabilitation.MethodsA total of 120 patients with thoracic or lumbar spinal column trauma(paraplegia patients excluded) were assigned into a control group of 60 and an observation group of 60 according to admission time. The control group were guided to do conventional functional rehab exercises. For the observation group, nurses designed a set of in-bed physical exercises which had 8 moves through literature reviewing, expert consultation, and clinical trials. The exercises were videotaped. The observation group were instructed to perform in-bed physical exercises with assistance of multimedia.Three weeks later, the proficiency in performing the exercises, and compliance with rehab exercises between the 2 groups were compared. ResultsThe proficiency in and compliance with functional rehab exercises in the observation group were better than those in the control group(P〈0.01 for both),and the incidence of constipation in the observation group was lower than that in the control group(P〈0.01).ConclusionThe in-bed physical exercises help patients with spinal trauma perform functional activity, which boosts rehabilitation of patients and reduces incidence of complications.
