The paper starts from the synchronic and diachronic perspective and attempts to make an investigation into the adjectival postmodifier constraint on English indefinite compound pronouns and the asymmetry of English compound reflectives within the framework of lexicalization theory. It comes to the following findings: Firstly, the present English indefinite compound pronouns are lexicalized from the "modifier + head" phrases; Secondly, the adjectival postmodifier constraint on English indefinite compound pronouns results from the negotiation between English Modifier Order Hierarchy and syntactic position competition motivated by syntactic lexicalization; Thirdly, English compound refiectives have undertaken two syntactic lexicalization, the first lexicalization changed the phrasal structure to lexical structure, the second reanalysi-motivated one changed the appositional phrases into modifier-head compounds, accompanied by changes in semantics and functions; Finally, the lexicalization asymmetry is the basic property of English compound reflectives and is motivated by the negotiation between human cognition, language use and change.
