Objective To investigate the sleep state among the crew on a long sea voyage. Methods Totally 120 mem- bers chosen randomly from ocean-going mission staff were polled by filling the Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI) table on individual sleep state and adaption to the environment. Results The average integral turned out to be 6.79 + 0.28. Ca- ses whose integral exceeded 8 accounted for 32.5% , due to lower sleep efficiency, a shorter period of sound sleep and a longer time taken to fall asleep. 52% of the members polled tended to feel fatigued at daytime. The main factors of entan- glement sleep were living environmental and timetable changes besides striving for adaption to time differences. Conclusion Sleep state can be improved or even restored to normal with consistent self-adaption, though entanglement proves to last frum one to three weeks among the crew engaged in a long sea voyage.
