摘　　要：作为近代民间慈善组织的典型代表,善堂在近代武汉地方慈善事业中扮演着十分重要的角色。在清末民初政府治理能力削弱的环境下,善堂承担了社会救助的主要责任,与此同时,善堂还超越了不预他事的规条,涉足了地方公事,在近代社会扮演了一个重要的角色。As the unique represent of modem times＇ charity organization, charitable institution play an important role in modem Wuhan charity development. During the time of the end of Qing dynasty and the beginning of Min, the government has weak abil- ity of managing, the charitable institution has some social salvation responsibilities, and at the same time, they overpass the prin- ciple of dis-involving and take into some official affairs and play an important role in modem society.
