Objective To explore the predictive values of physical activity level on mortality among maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) patients. Methods A convenience sample of 317 patients from 5 Class 11 Grade I hospitals in Guangzhou was recruited. The 7- day Physical Activity Recall Questionnaire (PAR) was used to assess physical activity level among MHD patients. Results Physical activity level can predict the mortality among MHD patients. Mild physical activity time, moderate physical activity time and the value of PAR were protective factors of mortality. The patients with higher physical activity level had lower mortality and age was the risk factor of mortality. Conclusion Physical activity level can predict the mortality among MHD patients. The patients with higher physical activity level have lower mortality. The findings suggest that in order to lower the mortality of MHD patients, it is necessary to assess their physical activity level and provide health instructions on physical activities to them.
