摘　　要：对图书馆本质的"有"与"无","是"与"非","动"与"静","一"与"多"等元问题的认识,历来存在极大的分歧,影响了图书馆本质研究的健康发展。通过对我国图书馆本质研究中上述元问题的各种认识的梳理分析,得出如下结论:图书馆作为一种"人为"的、"为人"的社会事物,其本质是实际存在的,对图书馆本质的探寻不仅必要,而且可能;图书馆本质是一个事实问题,而不是一个价值问题,实践是检验图书馆本质观的首要标准;图书馆本质是"生成"的,虽然具有稳定性但也是变化的;"图书馆"作为一个学科名称,它指代的对象必然是一种"类现象",因而其本质必然是普遍性、特殊性和个别性的统一。On the understanding of library essence such as ＇real＇ or ＇nihilistic＇, ＇right＇ or ＇wrong＇, ＇stable＇ or ＇instable＇, ＇sole＇ or ＇many＇, there are great divergences of cognition to these meta- ques- tions, which have many negative impacts on the proper development of library essence research. In this paper, the author discusses these meta -questions in -depth and come to conclusions including the following aspects ： （ 1 ） library essence is real existence, and the exploring of it not only is neces- sary but also is possible; （2） library essence is connected with fact but not value, and the human practice is the all - important standard verifying it ; （3） library essence is generated by practice and always is generating, which is metabolic although stable in a certain period; （4） ＂library＂ as name of a discipline means itself a category of phenomenon, which make the essence of it a unity of uni- versal, particularity and individuality.
