Objective To explore the relationship between Ankle-brachial Index (ABI) and walking ability in Type 2 diabetic patients. Methods One hundred and ninety-six subjects with type 2 diabetic mellitus were cross-sectionally studied. Subjects were divided into three groups according to the value of ABI (ABI〈0.7, ABI 0.7-0.9, ABI 0.9-1.3). The Chinese version of Walking Impairment Questionnaire (WIQ), Six-minute walk test (6MWT) were used to collect data that was conducted for statistical analysis, including Spearman correlation and analysis of eovarianee. Results Lower ABI corresponds with shorter Six-minute walk distance (6MWD), lower scores of WIQ (P〈0.01). ABI was significantly associated with WIQ and 6MWD (P〈0.01). Conclusion Ankle- brachial index (ABI) is significantly associated with walking ability in type 2 diabetic patients. In general practice, clinicians can use the ABI to gauge walking ability among type 2 diabetic patients.
