Objective: To observe the influence of acupuncture on the restoration of body functions of the middle-long distance teenage runners after half Marathon. Methods: Six cases of middle-long distance teenage runners at the age of 18-22 were selected. Acupuncture treatment was given 4 h after an international half Marathon. One month later, another small scale half Marathon was taken for the control study. By the biochemical and radioimmunological experiments, the peripheral blood urea nitrogen (BUN), creatine kinase (CK), testosterone (T) and cortisol (C) were tested respectively 4 h and 28 h later after training and two half Marathon matches. Results: Four hours after two half Marathon matches, serum BUN and CK were elevated in varying degrees and T value was decreased, indicating the decline of the physical ability and the appearance of exercise-induced fatigue. Acupuncture can help to restore the indexes, more sensitive in T/C ratio reaction. Conclusion: Acupuncture treatment can help the middle-long distance runners to restore the physical ability after match.
