Objective To determine the relation between high-sensitivity C-reactive protein and peripheral artery disease. Methods In our study, 837 patients with suspected CAD were investigated. Characteristics of studied subjects including demographics, familial history, past medical history and atherosclerotic risk factors such as high-sensitivity C-reactive protein were investigated. ABI was measured in all studied patients. ABI≤0.9 was considered as peripheral vessel disease and ABI〉0.9 was considered as normal. Results There are 68 patients who diagnosed as PAD, the prevalence of PAD were 8.1%. The serum Hs-CRP was significantly inversely associated with ABI, the proportion of high Hs-CRP was significantly higher in PAD patients than in controls . The elevated Hs-CRP had a 1.78 fold increased risk of PAD in forth quartiles than in first quartiles. Conclusioon Our findings of this study indicated that serum Hs-CRP level is related with ABI and the high Hs-CRP is an independent risk factor for PAD in Chinese.
