Based on the materialist philosophies of Gilles Deleuze and Manuel de Landa, this article discusses a more sympathetic approach towards the technology, in particular looking at Deleuze's concepts of 'machinic processes'and 'desiring machines', which move beyond the earlier distinction between the mechanical and the organic and recognize the human potential to absorb the new and the unfamiliar and appropriate technology as a prosthesis to human operations. It also suggests that if we adopt such an approach, we might be able to recognize the surrealist underpinning of many modernist commentaries on technology, such as Le Corbusier's much misunderstood comment about the house as 'a machine to live in'. The article focuses on how well it is designed instead of whether it is technological.
