Objective To develop a wireless vital signs monitoring system for the first aid and evacuation of combat casualties, which features promise in multi-parameter and continuous monitoring, portable and centralized monitoring. Methods The system included multiple portable monitoring units and a central monitoring unit that constructed a centralized monitoring system through wireless self-organizing network. The portable monitoring unit could provide multi-parameter monitoring of electrocardiogram(ECG),saturation of peripheral oxygen(SPO2),blood pressure(BP),body temperature, heart rate(HR),and respiration. These parameters were wirelessly sent to the central monitoring unit for displaying, analyzing, diagnosing, and recording. Results The results of basic performance and clinical applicability tests demonstrated the reliability and practicability of the system. Conclusion The system can continuously monitor vital signs of the wounded on the spot of the accident and during evacuation. The medics can monitor multiple wounded soldiers without going to the patients' beds, and then the therapeutic plans and measures can be regulated by acquiring timely physiological conditions of the wounded. This helps save medical resources and improve treatment efficiency.
