Objective To compare the combined behavioral score with BBB after the rat spinal cord was injured. Methods Twenty Wistar rats weighted 240 - 260g were divided into two groups randomly, one was mild group and the other was serious group;acute spinal cord injury models were made using Allen's method, and then compared the two behavior scores according to the extent of injury by three trained masters in double blind. Results Two behavior scores all had dependability in hind limb locomotor function according to the extent of injury. The combined behavioral score had statistical significance(P 〈 0.05) from the next day, and the BBB score had statistical significance(P 〈 0.05) 6 hours later in interclass contrast. The combined behavioral score and the BBB score both had statistical significance(P 〈 0.05) in mild intragroup contrast. In the serious group, the combined behavioral score had the same sensitivity as the mild group, but were better than combined behavioral score in dependability and truth, but the BBB score had statistical significance(P 〈 0.05) four days later. Conclusion The BBB scale is ascendant in interclass comparison. It could be a standard contrast investigative test for spinal cord injury in rats.
