摘　　要：评述了化学在现代社会中的作用和在科学技术体系中的地位,分析了我国化学界的现状,特别强调了化学与人类安全的关系。提出化学发展的契机和可能突破口,提出了学科重组的新思路和新世纪化学发展的战略思考,并强调了原始创新在基础研究中的重要作用。The pivotal role of chemistry in modem society, the predicament of current chemistry, the opportunities and possible break-throughs in chemistry have been analyzed, with the emphasis on the innovation as a core in basic research. The relationship between chemistry and human security has been described. The re-organization of chemical disciplines and the strategic thinking about advances in chemistry in the new century have been proposed.
