摘　　要：外文文献是研究近代温州社会稀缺而又重要的来源。苏路熙作为英国著名汉学家苏慧廉的妻子,她在《中国之行》中以极其生动的语言描绘了一幅晚清温州社会全景图。这幅全景图涵盖温州城景、重大历史事件、来温重要人物和温州风土人情等诸多方面,是研究温州近代史和晚清温州社会最为重要的外文文献,应该受到温州地方史和民俗学研究者的高度重视。Foreign literature is a unique and important source of studying modern Wenzhou. Lucy Farrar Soothill, the wife of William Edward Soothill, a famous sinologist of Britain, depicts in vivid words a panorama of Wenzhou society in late Qing Dynasty in her work A Passport to China. It covers the scene, historical events, important persons coming to Wenzhou and the social customs of Wenzhou. It is the most important literatures of studying Wenzhou in the modern time and late Qing Dynasty and should be laid great emphasis on by scholars who study the local history and custom of Wenzhou.
