Objective To investigate the subchronic toxicity of glyphosate resistant transgenic cole with bar gene on rats. Methods Wistar rats were randomly divided into seven groups by body weight, three dose groups of transgenic rape, three dose groups of non-transgenic groups and a basic diet control group. The rats were fed with diet for 90 consecutive days. In this period, animals were fed ad libitum. Food intakes and body weight were measured every week. In the middle and at the end of the feeding period, hematology and blood chemistry parameters were measured. At the end of the 90th day, routine pathological examination and organ coefficient for main viscera were carried out. Results Weight growth of each group animals was normal. Although some indexes of hematology and blood chemistry were significant different from transgenic cole group and non- transgenic cole group, all of the results were in the normal range which had been reported before. No obvious abnormality was found in pathological examination. Conclusion The results of the 90 days feeding test of transgenic rice in rats don't reveal any signs of toxic and adverse effects.
