摘　　要：舍伍德·安德森和威拉·凯瑟是19世纪末20世纪初非常重要的两位美国作家,本文就安德森《小城畸人》的开篇故事"双手"中塑造的"畸人"——飞翼·比德尔鲍姆和凯瑟《啊,拓荒者!》中的伊瓦(Ivar)进行对比研究,从而分析出凯瑟在对工业化、现代性以及人类社会前进道路的思考方面较安德森的进步之处。Sherwood Anderson and Willa Cather are two prominent American writers at the end of 19th century and the beginning of 20th century. This paper makes a comparison be- tween two grotesques-Wing Biddlebaum in Anderson＇s ＂Wi- nesburg, Ohio＂ and Ivar in Cather＇s ＂0 Pioneers! ＂, and then get a conclusion that, comparing with Anderson＇s bewilder- ment, Cather＇s belief in the path of human society in the future is steadfast.
