摘　　要：螭吻是中国传统建筑屋脊上的一种装饰构件,位于屋脊的正脊两端,早期被称为"鸱尾",唐代开始叫"鸱吻",直到明代才开始称"螭吻",其造型经历了由"尾"到"吻"的演变过程。螭吻是封建皇权至上的礼制符号和防火防雷的图腾象征,由此可看到礼制和官本文化对中国传统建筑屋脊造型产生的深远影响。Abstract： Chiwen is a Chinese traditional architectural ornament on roof ridge locating on the main ridge ends. Earlier it was known as the ＂Chiwei＂ and was called ＂Chiwen＂ in the beginning of the Tang Dynasty and till the Ming Dynasty it kept the same pronounciation of ＂Chiwen＂ but writen in different Chinese characters. Its styling evolved from ＂tail＂ to ＂kiss＂ modelling. Chiwen is the ritual symbol of feudal imperial supremacy and fireproof and lightningproof totem. The profound influence of etiquette and official standard culture on Chinese traditional architectural roof modelling is reflected in it.
