The chain extension of the recycled poly(ethylene terephthalate)(PET) using 2,2-bis(2-oxazo- line)(BOZ) and 2,2-(1,3-phenylene)-bis(2-oxazoline)(PBO) as the chain extenders from the perspec- tive of added amount and reaction time was studied. The results showed that the highest intrinsic viscos- ity arose when the added amount was 3 times over the theoretical amount and the reaction time was 4- 6 min. BOZ got better results and improved the intrinsic viscosity of recycled PET from 0.61 to 0.80. Fourier transform infrared subtractive spectrum was used to characterize the structure changes after the reaction between recycled PET and BOZ. The chain extension reaction can be confirmed through the ap- pearance of amide groups, the increase of ester groups and the decrease of carboxyl groups. The pres- ence of a five-membered ring confirmed that it takes 2 steps to complete the chain extension reaction. The differential scanning calorimetry was used to analyze the influence of residue BOZ upon the thermal performance of the products. The product met a further increase in relative molecular mass and a de- crease in crystallinity at a relatively lower BOZ added amount, and the situation is just opposite at a higher BOZ added amount.
