Objective To screen metabolic syndrome in patients with coronary heart disease (CHD) in order to find out high-risk people of cardiovascular disease and study the relationship between metabolic syndrome components and severity of coronary artery lesions. Methods Angiographies of coronary arteries were performed in 274 CHD cases. They were divided into MS group and non-metabolic syndrome (NMS) group according to CDS standard. Regults The incidence of multi-branch (~2) lesion was higher in the MS group. Gensini scores increased in the MS group compared with that in the NMS group. The incidence of multi-branch lesion and the Gensini score increased with the increase in number of metabolic syndrome components. MS prevalence was increased with the increase in both branch number and quartile of Gensini score. Logistic regression analysis revealed that the postprandial blood glucose and BMI were independent risk factors for CHD. Conclusion There is close relationship between metabolic syndrome and the severity of coronary heart disease. The severity of coronary artery lesions increase with the increase in metabolic syndrome components. More attention should be paid to the postprandial blood glucose and BMI because they play a more important role in severity of coronary artery lesion.
