摘　　要：克乃文长期执掌金陵大学图书馆,并且第一个在中国开设了图书馆学课程,是中国图书馆学教育的开启者,其贡献不容忽视。文章初步考察了克乃文的求学与工作经历,分析了他来华与返美的缘由,介绍了他对中国图书馆事业所做出的贡献。William Harry Clemons（1879-1968） was the 1913-1927 librarian of Nanking University Library and the first person to offer courses in library science in China.He was one of the main pioneers in library science education in China.His contributions can′t be ignored.This paper makes a survey of his school years and work experience,analyzes possible reasons for his coming to as well as departing from China,and makes clear his contributions to the development of Chinese librarianship.
