Objective To compare the therapeutic efficacies of selecting Ashi points and selecting points of the corresponding meridians in treatment of rheumatoid arthritis with bee-sting therapy. Method Sixty patients were randomized into a treatment group and a control group, 30 in each group. The treatment group was majorly treated with bee-sting by selecting Ashi points, while the control was by selecting points of the corresponding meridians. The two groups were both treated with sting by bees alive. Major symptoms, overall function status, erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), and rheumatoid factor (RF) were observed. Result The two groups both showed improvements in major symptoms, overall function status, ESR, and RF. Subjects with overall function status evaluated at grade 1 and 2 occupied 90.0% in the treatment group versus 73.3% in the control group, and the overall function status of the treatment group was significantly better than that of the control group (P〈 0.05). Conclusion Bee-sting by selecting Ashi points can improve the clinical symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis, reduce the levels of the relevant laboratory indexes, and enhance the ability of daily life of the patients.
